Myofascial Stretching (MFS) with SomaTraining LA
We recently completed the Myofascial Stretching course with Brent Meier and Bryce Turner of SomaTraining LA. We are already incorporating a lot of the stretches in our practice to teach patients stretches they can do at home. Class consisted of an in-depth review of fascial anatomy and biomechanics. One area we covered was the iliopsoas group. When analyzed, there are actually 5 different angles that need to be considered when performing a stretch of the ilacus, psoas, and or fascia in the area which means there are 5 different stretches for the area!
Another example, with respect to management of the pelvis, an important part is the Deltoid of Farabeuf. It is comprised of the superficial part of the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and tensor fascia latae. They work together to balance the ilium and knee. If one part is tighter than the other, it can potentially result in pain.
